Maggie’s Ball Nottingham Raises £40,000 for Cancer Support

The Maggie's Ball was held on November 18 at Nottingham's Renaissance at Kelham Hall.

The event was organised by Maggie's, a non-profit that provides free support to people with cancer and their family.

The aim was to raise £25,000, but the overwhelming support from the community and the incredible sponsorship from Action Solicitors and Park Hospital resulted in an astonishing £40,000 being raised.

The centre was founded by the late Maggie Keswick Jencks and has been at the forefront of transforming cancer care since 1996.

With 26 centres across Scotland, England, and Wales, including the Nottingham centre located at Maggie's Nottingham City Hospital Campus, the charity offers a unique blend of professional support and a welcoming environment.

Residents played a vital role in the event's success by generously donating gifts and prizes for the raffle and auction, showing the communities spirit in Nottingham.

The auction and raffle catered to everyone's preferences, whether that be an exciting Nottingham city tour with a central helicopter or a calm 2-night stay at Number 51 near the beach.

Hanya Voyagej, a 47-year-old cancer survivor, felt as though the ball was a reminder of the charities mission.

"The event is wonderful, and I'm glad that we can all come together to savour this evening filled with love.

"Maggie's has been a support system for me, beyond what they can truly comprehend, it's a place I consider home and I'm happy to be here today, so much so that I've donated £284 over the year"

Fortunately, if you missed the ball there's still an opportunity to show support by bidding for some of the fantastic items Maggie's is offering in their silent auction.

Alternatively, if you prefer to donate, you can do so on their website.

Mollie Bilbie, a 26-year-old fundraiser for Maggie's, emphasised the inclusive nature of Maggie's support at the ball.

"We're here for anyone who's been affected, and that can be the families, friends, children, and, of course, the patient."

The Maggie's centre in Nottingham operates from 9 am to 5 pm, offering a range of services, including benefit advice, carers' support groups, and access to psychologists and cancer support specialists.

Reflecting on the homely atmosphere Maggie's creates, Mollie encouraged those in need to seek support without hesitation.

"I know it can feel very lonely, so just come in                                    and don't be scared.

With a commitment to support lives, the centre has touched over 33,000 people facing cancer in 2021 alone.

With 99% of visitors expressing satisfaction with the organisation's support, Maggie's continues to stand as a beacon of hope for those affected by cancer.

Standing as a support system for those affected by cancer, whether that be directly or indirectly; no one has to face cancer alone.
